Frozen Pineapple Margaritas

These Frozen Pineapple Margaritas is the perfect frozen drink for a warm afternoon! It’s tropical and sweet with a kick from the spicy chili-salt rim.

No Cinco de Mayo celebration is complete without frozen pineapple margaritas flowing! I know, some like their margs a bit more traditional – on the rocks, no fruit added – but that’s not me. I’ve tried just about every fruity margarita out there: mango – check, watermelon – check,  strawberry – check, peach – check. I just had to give pineapple margs a try next – and I HAD to put a spicy spin on them!

Why You’ll Love These Frozen Pineapple Margaritas

  • Tropical flavor. Pineapple is one of my favorite fruits. Those sweet, tropical notes really can’t be beat when put up against more traditional margarita flavors. It takes me immediately to the beach!
  • Perfectly refreshing. A traditional margarita is made with lime juice, tequila, and triple sec. For this recipe, I add pineapple and ice for a fruity frozen take on a classic refreshing margarita.
  • A hint of heat: What gives this frozen pineapple margarita a real kick is the chili spiked salt rim. Get ready for a real treat for your taste buds!

What You’ll Need

  • Ice Cubes
  • Frozen Pineapple Chunks
  • Lime Juice
  • Tequila
  • Triple Sec
  • Rim Garnish: I used a combination of lime juice, chili powder, salt, lime wedges, and fresh pineapple chunks. So good!

How to Make Frozen Pineapple Margaritas

  1. Blend. In a blender, combine the ice cubes, pineapple chunks, lime juice, tequila, and triple sec. Process the mixture until it reaches the consistency of a slushy.
  2. Rim your glasses. Pour the lime juice in a shallow bowl. Combine the chili powder and salt in a separate shallow bowl. Dip the rim of your glasses in the lime juice and then dip the moistened rim into the chili powder and salt mixture.
  3. Serve. Pour your prepared margarita in glasses. Garnish each glass with lime slices and pineapples. Serve and enjoy.

How to Rim a Margarita Glass

The chili powder spiked salt rim is what really makes these frozen margaritas special. It’s important you get your glasses rimmed just right! A great margarita with a spotty rim is such a let down. I know some people who dip in water, but I don’t recommend this method. I’ve also seen people glide a lime wedge around the rim of the glass, this won’t do either because the pulp also ends up on the rim! 😕

How to get a perfectly rimmed margarita glass:

  • Pour lime juice into a shallow bowl.
  • Put your salt, sugar, or mix into a shallow bowl and spread evenly on the bottom of the bowl.
  • Dip the rim of your glasses into the lime juice.
  • Dip the rim into the salt mixture.

How to Serve Frozen Pineapple Margaritas

I love to serve these margs in my fanciest margarita glasses. I rim my glasses with a chili salt blend and garnish each pineapple margarita with lime wedges and pineapple chunks. If you’ve got a sweet tooth or don’t like a spicy kick, you can always rim your glasses with sugar or just plain salt.

These frozen margaritas go perfectly with all types of Mexican fare. I’m thinking of your favorite queso, guacamole, or salsa recipe. My favorite dip is this avocado salsa. Taco chicken bites are a fun appetizer to serve alongside these margaritas, too.

I like setting up a fun build your own taco bar. This makes Cinco de Mayo super fun in our house. I set out tortilla chips, corn tortillas and flour tortillas, a few different types of taco meat, sour cream, diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and cheddar cheese. I throw in some black beans, rice, and fire roasted corn for fun. Then we each build our own perfect tacos, burritos, nachos, or taco salad.

For dessert, a nice churro sundae with cinnamon flavored ice cream or tres leches cake will do! 😍

If your kids think these look fun, it’s simple to turn them into a kid friendly slushy. Just swap out the tequila and triple sec from some Sprite or 7 Up. Then follow the instructions in the recipe.

How to Store Leftovers

  • Frozen margaritas hold up pretty well in the freezer for up to two weeks.. Because they contain alcohol, they’ll stay nice and slushy rather than freezing solid.

I used Patron Silver, but any silver or blanco tequila is good for margaritas.

Yeah, that would be perfect. I’d just triple the ingredients, but keep the ice to 2 cups and add more, if needed.

I really wanted this recipe to be good but it just wasn’t….seemed like it was missing agave. Also not enough tequila for a margarita…should be 2oz minimum per cocktail

Also don’t think you need ice on top of a frozen pineapple, you can barely pour it out of the glass

Could I use another alcohol instead of tequila? Maybe rum?

You absolutely can try it, I’m sure it will be delicious! Margaritas, though, are made with tequila.
