Why You’ll Love This Honey Garlic Shrimp Recipe

  • So easy. Easy shrimp recipes have to be some of my favorite things to cook. They come together really fast and only use a few ingredients. It’s time for a happy dance!
  • Easy cleanup. Since we’re only using one skillet to cook these tasty garlic shrimp, cleanup is an absolute breeze. This is a huge win on a busy weeknight!
  • Sure the impress. Shrimp are an awesome, but often overlooked dinner protein. They make any meal seem more upscale and they cook up so quickly. This makes them perfect for impressing the fam on a busy weeknight.

What You’ll Need

  • Shrimp: I prefer using raw shrimp for this recipe. You can get any size you’d like.
  • Honey
  • Soy sauce: I recommend low sodium soy sauce or Tamari so you can control how salty the recipe is.
  • Garlic: Fresh, minced garlic will give the best flavor.
  • Vegetable oil

How to Make Honey Garlic Shrimp

  • Prep. Peel and devein the shrimp but leave the tails on.
  • Marinate. Combine the honey, soy sauce, and minced garlic in a small mixing bowl and whisk together. Place your shrimp in a Ziploc bag and add HALF of the prepared sauce to the shrimp. Close the bag and massage the sauce all around the shrimp. Let it sit for about 20 minutes.
  • Cook. Cook the shrimp for 1-2 minutes on each side until they’re nice and pink. You may have to do this in two batches so they don’t get overcrowded in the pan. Add the other half of your sauce (don’t use the marinade) and stir around. Cook for 1 more minute or until sauce just begins to thicken.
  • Serve and enjoy. Remove from the heat and serve!

Recipe Tips and Variations

  • Cook time. The cook time on your garlic shrimp is going depend on how large they are. I find that cooking the shrimp for just 1-2 minutes per side is perfect. Shrimp are done when they no longer appear pink but instead have taken on a bit more of an opaque color. Since we’re talking about such a quick cook time, you will want to keep a constant eye on them to ensure you don’t overcook them.
  • Don’t overcook. The secret to perfectly seared shrimp is to be careful that it doesn’t overcook. I avoid this by intentionally searing my shrimp in batches. Just spread them in one even layer on the skillet, sear them, and then flip.
  • Skillet choice. I suggest using a well-seasoned skillet as opposed to a non-stick pan. The skillet adds to the delicious seared flavor.

What to Serve With Garlic Shrimp

For the most simple meal, I throw garlic shrimp over top of a bed of lettuce and call it a day. If you’re wanting something a pit more substantial, opt to serve them over a bed of garlic butter parmesan rice or even cauliflower rice. I also love to serve them with some stir-fried veggies or on top of a bed of zoodles (aka zucchini noodles). Another fun idea is to stick some cute toothpicks in them and serve them up as an app.

How to Store Leftovers

Shrimp really doesn’t store well in my opinion, so I recommend only cooking enough that you’re going to eat in one sitting. Since this honey garlic shrimp recipe is so quick, it’s easy to make another batch whenever you like!
