Ingredients

Optional Toppings

  • fresh diced tomatoes
  • chopped red bell pepper
  • sliced green onions
  • shredded lettuce

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425˚F.
  • Transfer the ground beef and onions to a large skillet and cook over medium heat until beef is browned; about 10 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  • Stir in the water and taco seasoning. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes or until the liquid is absorbed. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • In a mixing bowl combine refried beans and tomato salsa; mix and stir until well combined.
  • Spread the refried beans mixture over the pizza crust, leaving a small border around the edges.
  • Spread the ground beef mixture over the refried beans.
  • Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, and crushed tortilla chips over the pizza.
  • Add the black olives and sprinkle with hot sauce, if using.
  • Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the crust is golden brown.
  • Remove the pizza from the oven and top with diced tomatoes, chopped bell pepper, sliced green onions and shredded lettuce.
  • Cut and serve.

Notes

  • Pizza Crust: To make things easier and quicker, I almost always use refrigerated pizza dough and roll it out. For this recipe, you can use your favorite pre-baked pizza crust or grab some pizza dough and follow the prep instructions on the label.
  • Beef: I used lean ground beef, but feel free to use your favorite. Also, mix it up and use ground chicken, turkey, or ground pork. Tofu crumbles will also work.
  • Toppings: Use your favorite combination of taco toppings to create your pizza.
  • Storing: You can store leftover taco pizza in the refrigerator for up to two days. I recommend wrapping each piece in plastic wrap or foil. You can also place the pieces in a large, shallow, airtight container. If you stack slices, put a sheet of wax paper or parchment in between to prevent sticking.
