Colorful Cookies

Buttery sugar cookie dough is brightened up with crushed hard candy for a gorgeous presentation!

Sift together the dry ingredients until no lumps remain.  Set aside.

Sift Dry Ingredients

Cream the butter and sugar. Scrape down the bowl, then add the egg and extracts.

Mix Wet Ingredients

Add dry ingredients to the butter mixture.  Beat on low for a couple minutes until dough is soft and smooth.

Make Dough

Divide dough in half and roll each half onto a piece of parchment paper. Chill for at least 3 hours or overnight.

Roll and Chill

Separate the candies by color into baggies.  Crush into small bits with a meat mallet or rolling pin.

Cut out the cookies.  Use a smaller cookie cutter to cut a "window" in the the center of each one, and fill with crushed candy.

Bake for 8-10 minutes, then let cool on the sheet for 10 minutes, until the center is set.


These beautiful stained glass cookies are simple to make, but so lovely to look at (and to eat!).
