I love having a batch of chicken breasts ready to go in the fridge! They’re so handy for busy days when I need something quick for dinner or want to add some extra protein to a salad, wrap, soup, or pasta. Make a batch ahead of time, and you’ll have juicy, flavorful chicken ready to use all week!

Why You’ll Love This Oven Baked Chicken Breast

  • Juicy and tender. Nobody wants dry, tough chicken! Pounding the chicken breasts to an even thickness helps them cook more evenly, while the high oven temperature helps keep them juicy.
  • Full of flavor. A simple blend of garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and Italian seasoning adds plenty of delicious flavor without making the recipe complicated.
  • So easy. This recipe couldn’t be easier. There’s no marinating, searing, or flipping required. Just season the chicken, pop it in the oven, and let it bake!

Oven Baked Chicken Breast Ingredients

You only need a few simple ingredients to make this tender, juicy, and flavorful chicken breast recipe!

  • Chicken: Boneless, skinless chicken breasts.
  • Seasoning: Garlic powder, Italian seasoning, onion powder, paprika, parsley, salt, and pepper.

How to Cook Chicken Breast in the Oven

  1. Prep. Preheat your oven to 425°F. While the oven is heating, lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare the chicken. Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness with a meat mallet. Season both sides with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Bake. Place the seasoned chicken breasts in the prepared baking dish and bake for 17–20 minutes, or until the thickest part of the chicken reaches 165°F on an instant-read thermometer.
  4. Rest and serve. Remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for 5–7 minutes. This helps the chicken hold onto all those delicious juices. Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired, and enjoy!

Tips for the Best Oven Baked Chicken Breast

  • Pound the chicken. Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness of about 1 inch. This helps them cook more evenly and also tenderizes the chicken. If you’d rather skip this step, you can use chicken cutlets, which are thinner than regular chicken breasts.
  • Seasonings. Feel free to switch up the seasonings to suit your taste. Try adding lemon zest, rosemary, or cumin for a different flavor.
  • Check the temperature. Use an instant-read meat thermometer to check the thickest part of the chicken. The chicken is ready when it reaches 165°F.
  • Let it rest. Don’t cut into the chicken right away! Let it rest for at least 5 minutes before slicing so the juices have time to redistribute and the chicken stays nice and juicy.

What to Serve With Chicken Breasts

This chicken breast is so versatile, you can serve it with just about anything! Keep it simple with your favorite pasta, potatoes, veggies, soup, or salad, or use the chicken in sandwiches, wraps, and other recipes.

Some of my favorite ways to serve this are in chicken bacon avocado salad and chicken bacon ranch pasta. And sometimes, I just want an easy weeknight dinner with baked chicken breast, romano beans in garlic butter sauce, and easy oven roasted potatoes. So good and so simple!

How to Store and Reheat Chicken Breast

Have leftovers? Here’s the best way to store and reheat your chicken breast so it stays tender and flavorful.

  • To store: Let the chicken cool, then place it in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 4 days. You can also freeze it for up to 6 months.
  • To reheat: Reheat the chicken in a 350°F oven for about 10–12 minutes, or microwave it until warmed through. If reheating in the oven, add a splash of chicken broth or water to help keep the chicken moist.
