I love sliders – they’re the right size to make into an appetizer, but they’re just as fun (and filling) to serve at dinner time. They’re also perfectly sized for kid hands, making them a family favorite.

Sliders always find themselves at our family (coffee) table during game nights. Just last weekend, we gathered around the TV, each with a plate of these cheesy, beefy sliders in hand, cheering on our soccer team. My girls love them because they’re just the right size, and there’s cheese in ’em! Besides, making them is so easy that I don’t miss any of the action. Whether celebrating a win or just enjoying the game, these sliders always make our evenings a little more delicious.

Why You’ll Love This Cheeseburger Sliders Recipe

  • Familiar flavors. Love cheeseburgers? You’re sure to love them made mini and served on small rolls that are brushed with butter for extra richness.
  • Satisfying. Even though these are smaller than a regular burger, they are just as tasty, and there’s something so fun about a two or three-bite burger!
  • Versatile. As noted, these sliders make a wonderful appetizer or game-day snack, but they are just as good as the centerpiece of your dinner. You decide!
The ingredients for cheeseburger sliders are shown portioned out and labeled: rolls, beef, American cheese, Jack cheese, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, oil, butter, onion, garlic, garlic powder, mustard, salt and pepper.

What You’ll Need

Check out the simple ingredients below for making these cheeseburger sliders with Hawaiian rolls. They are all available at most grocery stores. I’ve included the full ingredient amounts in the recipe card at the end of this post.

For the Ground Beef

  • Olive Oil – I always use extra virgin olive oil.
  • Yellow Onion – Or use a red onion.
  • Ground Beef
  • Garlic – You can add more garlic if you like extra garlic flavor.
  • Mustard I love Dijon mustard for a sweet-spicy kick, but you can use your favorite mustard here.
  • Worcestershire Sauce – For extra depth of flavor.
  • Salt and Pepper – I use Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper for these patties.

For the Burgers:

  • Dinner Rolls – You need one package of dinner rolls for these sliders. My favorite is Hawaiian savory butter rolls.
  • Cheese – American cheese and Monterey Jack cheese.
  • Butter – You can use unsalted or salted butter.
  • Garlic Powder You can omit the garlic powder if you don’t care for a lot of garlic flavor.
  • Sesame Seeds – I used a combo of white and black sesame seeds, but white sesame seeds only are fine.

How To Make Cheeseburger Sliders

Follow along with the photos below to make this sliders recipe, packed with ground beef and two types of cheese!

  1. Sauté the onions. Heat the olive oil and cook the onions.
  2. Brown the beef. Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Stir in the garlic, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, Kosher salt, and black pepper.
  3. Prep the oven. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a baking dish.
  4. Add cheese. Slice the dinner rolls in half, place the bottom half in the pan, then top with American cheese.
  5. Top with meat. Spread the prepared ground beef evenly over the cheese.
  6. Add shredded cheese. Sprinkle shredded Monterey Jack cheese over the ground beef.
  7. Top. Place the top half of the dinner rolls over the cheese, then brush the rolls with melted butter mixed with garlic powder. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  8. Bake. Cover with foil, bake, then remove foil and finish baking until the rolls are browned.

Tips for Success

  • Dinner roll options. If you like a slightly sweeter roll, use Kings Hawaiian rolls instead of their savory rolls. You can use any type of roll you prefer in this recipe, but those two are my top choices!
  • Cheese choices. You can use sharp or mild shredded cheddar instead of the American cheese, or try any type of cheese you wish for a different flavor profile! I like blue cheese or pepper Jack for a bit more bite.
  • Protein options. If you want a lighter burger, swap in ground turkey for the ground beef. Prepare the ground turkey exactly as you would the beef, and proceed with the recipe as written.
  • Make them vegetarian. You can easily make these into vegetarian cheeseburger sliders by using plant-based meat such as Beyond brand and forming the ground “beef” into vegetarian patties for the sliders.

Make It A Meal

Round out these cheeseburger sliders into a complete meal with a side salad or crunchy vegetables like sliced carrots, bell peppers, broccoli, and more. Potato fries are a must when serving cheeseburger sliders! Make my zesty Garlic Fries or my recipes for crisp Air Fryer Zucchini Fries or oven-baked Parmesan Asparagus Fries.

My Mexican Street Corn Salad or Avocado Tomato Salad are great options to serve with cheeseburger sliders. I suggest making a platter of grilled vegetables, too. If you want to serve cheeseburger sliders as an appetizer, add a cocktail, like a refreshing glass of strawberry lemonade sangria or a frozen pineapple margarita.

Proper Storage

You can easily store and reheat cheeseburger sliders for a later snack! Store the assembled sliders in an airtight container or tightly wrapped in foil in the fridge for up to 3 days.

To reheat, place the sliders on a baking sheet and warm them at 350°F until the patties are heated through and the cheese is melted.

Instructions

Prepare the Ground Beef:

  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onions and sauté until translucent, about 3 minutes.
  • Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks.
  • Stir in the minced garlic, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, Kosher salt, and black pepper. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing flavors to meld. Remove from heat and set aside.

Prepare the Burgers:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  • Slice the dinner rolls in half horizontally, keeping them intact – do not separate them. Place the bottom half of the rolls in the prepared baking dish.
  • Layer American cheese slices evenly over the bottom half of the rolls.
  • Spread the prepared ground beef evenly over the American cheese layer.
  • Sprinkle shredded Monterey Jack cheese over the ground beef layer.
  • Place the top half of the dinner rolls over the cheese layer.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter and garlic powder. Brush the butter mixture over the tops of the rolls.
  • Sprinkle sesame seeds evenly over the top of the rolls.
  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the tops of the rolls are golden brown.
  • Once done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
  • Arrange them on a serving platter and serve warm.
